Culture & Community in a Time of Transformation: Focus on MA is a specialized report authored by Slover Linett Audience Research and commissioned by the Barr Foundation. It extends the learnings from the national Culture & Community research through a separate exploration focused on the state of Massachusetts. Hosted by Mosaic Lowell and the Creative County Initiative.

Please join us on April 13, from 9:00 – 10:45 AM, for a deep dive into and discussion of these findings for the Northeast Region and the state of Massachusetts.

This research shares insights from thousands of MA residents about the role of arts and culture in their lives now – and their hopes for change among organizations in the future. The session will open with a review of the report findings, followed by presentations by several area arts and culture practitioners describing how they have put core themes into their work. These will set up lively breakout session discussions about activating these findings in our local and regional arts and culture sector. We hope you’ll bring your voice to the table to share and reflect in this discussion with arts and culture leaders across the region.

Guiding questions for this research include:
How could cultural organizations support their communities in MA during such unprecedented times? What kind of changes do people want to see among arts and culture organizations in the future?

How have patterns of engagement with arts and culture shifted in MA? What roles could the arts, creativity, community engagement, and other forms of culture play in the work ahead?

To what extent do MA residents believe systemic racism is present in MA arts and culture organizations? In which genres?

Do MA residents want arts and culture organizations to address social issues in their communities? If so, which ones?
