Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestras Presents: A Chamber Music Concert

Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestras (NMYO) present a chamber music concert on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at 3:00 pm in the Shalin Liu Performance Center, 37 Main St., Rockport, MA 01966.

“Our Chamber Music Concert features all of NMYO’s Symphony Orchestra and Select Flute Choir musicians,” says Gerry Dolan, NMYO’s Music Director. “This year we also feature a saxophone quartet, piano quintet, and a piece for harp and woodwinds.”

The concert is the culmination of an eight-week rehearsal period during which each of the small string, woodwind, flute, brass, saxophone, and percussion ensembles rehearse with visiting professional musicians. These thirteen small ensembles will perform music by both classical and modern composers including Ed Argenziano, Gustav Holst, Dmitri Shostakovich, and William Grant Still.

Join us in person for this free-to-the public performance at the beautiful Shalin Liu Performance Center. NMYO is committed to making its concerts accessible to all patrons and will make reasonable accommodations when possible. For assistance, contact the NMYO office at 978-309-9833.

New England Biolabs provided a grant to help support NMYO’s Chamber Music program. Additional Gold Benefactor and Conductors Circle Sponsors are the Massachusetts Cultural Council, Carriage House Violins of Johnson Stringed Instruments, Cape Ann Savings Bank, Cummings Center, Coburn Charitable Society, Demoulas Foundation, and the Institution for Savings. The local Cultural Councils of Boxford, Hamilton-Wenham, Ipswich and Topsfield also lend their support for this concert.

NMYO provides youth musicians with exceptional ensemble training and opportunities for cognitive, social, and personal growth through musical performance and community service. Led by Music Director Gerald J. Dolan Jr., with an accomplished team of music professionals, NMYO’s 155 musicians come from 40+ towns throughout northeast Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire and participate in one or more of the six large ensembles offered. The regular rehearsal and concert schedule is supplemented with master classes, enrichment days, chamber music, and community service outreach concerts to underserved populations. You too can join NMYO! Musicians are now being added for the second semester. Rehearsals are held weekly just off I-95 and Route 1 in Topsfield/Boxford. NMYO is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.
