Rubbish to Runway Fashion Show – Call for Designers!

Rubbish to Runway Fashion Show – Call for Designers!

The Rubbish to Runway Fashion Show will be held on June 27th and 28th, 2025. This inspiring annual event features an intergenerational fashion show with garments made by local designers from materials that would otherwise be discarded. The show promotes inclusivity, body positivity, and sustainable practices while supporting Veasey Memorial Park in Groveland. With the theme “COMMUNITY,” the event aims to build meaningful relationships among individuals and their environment.

We are looking for DESIGNERS for the event!

Please see criteria below:

The majority of the design must be composed of materials destined for a landfill or recycling bin if not rescued by you.
These can be new materials that are left over or deconstructed from another project. These are often industrial materials applied to clothing in unique ways.
New construction materials can be used to fasten, glue, staple, sew, zipper, or Velcro the fashion together but these materials should not exceed 10% of the fashion.
Designs can be made from deconstructed garments and fabrics. “Refashioning” means using old, tattered or out-of-style garments and/or materials reconstructed into something entirely new.
Materials not accepted for any design:
• Unsafe materials such as those that emit odors, fumes, toxins, chemicals or particulate matter.
• Materials that are sharp or poorly fastened to the garment.
• Materials that are new and could be put to better use such as food products.

The theme for this show is COMMUNITY-
Please incorporate design elements inspired by local landmarks, natural resources, and traditions that connect us to our shared identity and celebrate our community’s history, culture, and resilience in the face of challenges.
