Writers Series: Ann Taylor and Carl Carlsen

The Writers Series welcomes Ann Taylor and Carl Carlsen for our February reading.
Carl Carlsen taught English at North Shore Community College from 1974 though 2011. In retirement, he has pursued his interest in oral history by producing Fifty Years on Seven Seas, the story of his father’s career as a merchant mariner and They Came Out: Holocaust Diaspora Testimonies of the Lange Family. Brickyard Stories 2.0: A Lynn MA Neighborhood Before and After Urban Renewal [2021] is the culmination of his decades-long involvement with stories told by Lynn residents and poems written about particular places in the city <www.poetryofplaces.org>.

Ann Taylor is a Professor of English at Salem State University in Salem, Mass. where she teaches both literature and writing courses. She has written two books on college composition, academic and free-lance essays, and a collection of personal essays, Watching Birds: Reflections on the Wing. Her first poetry book, The River Within, won first prize in the 2011 Cathlamet Poetry competition at Ravenna Press. A chapbook, Bound Each to Each (Finishing Line Press), was published in 2013. Heloise and Abelard: the Exquisite Truth (WordTech Communications, 2018), focuses on the twelfth-century story of their lives, and her most recent collection Sortings (2020), is available from Dos Madres Press.
