Island Street Studios at Union Crossing are a community of artists working in 27 loft -style studios located in a historic mill building in Lawrence, MA. Our studios vary in square footage from 205-535 square feet, each one unique in itself to suit the uniqueness of your artistry or creative work. With exposed brick walls, twelve-foot ceilings, city and river views, magnificent windows, and historic mill surroundings, the work spaces are perfect for your remote, creative, incubator, or office space, and are accessible in our secure location at any time of the day or night. The space also offers on-site property management, a freight elevator, shared sink and storage space, ample parking, a fitness center, and a community classroom available to use for classes, meetings, or workshops without charge.
The studios were created by Lawrence CommunityWorks, a nonprofit community development organization which redeveloped the mill building (which includes 60 affordable apartments upstairs and more commercial space on the first and second floors). Since its beginning in 2012, the studio community has grown in the best way communities do: through developing and ever-deepening relationships between artists and surrounding organizations and businesses. The monthly 'Second Thursday' open studio events (every 2 Thursday of the month from 5-9pm) offer a great opportunity for current studio artists and local guest artists and vendors to sell and showcase their work, network with other artists, and enjoy live music, performances, local food, and more. Check out our open studios or contact Renée to take a tour of our community!
