ARTIST STATEMENT
MURIEL ANGELIL
studio at 15 Cedar Street, Amesbury, Mass 01983
Childhood memories of my life growing up in Alexandria, Egypt influence the images that are created in my abstract figurative paintings and my monotypes. Horses, Arab women, little girls, dancers tell a story that the viewer can interpret through their own psyche.
Fluid strokes and color are predominant in my abstract and encaustic (wax) paintings expressing visually a world of action and mystery.
In my monotypes one can see a bold graphic quality a simple use of color and a fluidity of expression.
In addition Angelil has been creating site specific installations since 1991 and her works have been recently seen at : "Studios Without Walls" along the Muddy River in Brookline, MA. and at Maudslay State park in Newburyport, MA.
I have also written and published my memoir: "Back to the Past, A Daughter of the Nile". The book is about my life living in Alexandria, Egypt and what brought me to the USA.
