The Sargent-Murray-Gilman-Hough House Association operates The Sargent House Museum, preserving the historic (1782) building, its grounds and its collections. The Museum interprets the site to engage the widest possible audience in the exploration of Cape Ann’s history and in the life and accomplishments of Judith Sargent Murray (1751-1820), America’s earliest feminist writer and the original occupant of the house. The Association achieves its mission through educational programs, exhibitions, publications, and collaborations with other cultural and historical organizations.
