Art and Culture Highlighted at Newburyport ArtWalk 2021 on Oct. 16

Newburyport, MA, Oct. 11, 2021 – The Newburyport ArtWalk returns on Saturday, Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with paintings, photography, sculptures and more from talented local artists. The Fall ArtWalk includes special exhibits, artist discussions, demonstrations and more. The public is invited to take part in ArtWalk’s events, browse artwork in traditional and contemporary styles in Newburyport’s Cultural District, dine, and shop at local businesses.

Sponsors of the 2021 ArtWalk are Newburyport Framers and Harborside Printing Company, located at 3 Graf Road in the Industrial Park area. As a way to give back to supporters of the arts, Newburyport Framers is offering 10 percent off framing on any art purchased as part of ArtWalk 2021. Harborside Printing Company contributed to the printing of the brochure.

Participating galleries this year include: Alan Bull Studio, A Pleasant Shoppe LLC, Firehouse Center for the Arts, Greetings By Design, Indigo Artist Studio, Newburyport Art Association, Newburyport Framers, Paula Estey Gallery, Sweethaven Gallery, and Valerie’s Gallery. A special thanks to the numerous ArtWalk partner businesses who help to support this event, especially after having to cancel last year due to the pandemic. Among the special activities planned for November’s ArtWalk are:

Newburyport Framers: Newburyport Framers one of the best equipped frame shops on the North Shore, offering meticulous care and attention to detail. In addition to the highest quality of framing, they also feature original art for sale by owner Patti Langley, Marisa DiIorio Peters, and others. Indigo Artist Studio: As the printmaking studio and gallery space for Mary Pollak and guest artists since 2006, the studio is open only for ArtWalk or by appointment. Meet three artists: Newburyport painter and printmaker Tim Connors; Boston painter Maria Malatesta; and printmaker and studio artist Mary Arthur Pollak. Malatesta will give a Gelli Plate Demonstration at 11 a.m. Gelli Plate Printing is a fun and easy way to make monoprints. A variety of printing methods will be demonstrated, including using a stencil, layering and drawing with the plate. 53 Middle Street, Newburyport

Newburyport Art Association: This October, the NAA will be featuring four amazing shows. From October 1-17, please join us and the artists from Opportunity Works for our annual OpArt exhibition. The NAA will shine a light on this changing world with “Refuge,” curated by Joe Donelly and featuring the work of 43 local artists. Refuge can be seen in two of the NAA’s galleries and at the Joppa Flats Education Center. Stop by the gallery or the Joppa Flats Education Center and paint some shells with us to be added to artist Carolyn Lewenberg’s interactive installation. There is a solo exhibition by artist Kelley Hails, from October 5-17, followed by the Fall Juried Show, from October 22-November 20.

On October 16, please join us for a panel discussion featuring selected artists from “Refuge” and a shell painting demo from Carolyn Lewenberg. A Pleasant Shoppe LLC: Discover one of a kind, handmade pieces by 100 local artists in a variety of media at this friendly art gallery. It offers a range of items including paintings, photography, weaving, jewelry, handbags, pottery, furniture, and gift items. 57 Pleasant Street, Newburyport

Valerie’s Gallery: Join us for an all-day opening of new work by gallery artists, including some of Paul Beauregard’s bird sculptures that are not always available. 26 State Street, Newburyport

Sweethaven Gallery: Sweethaven is hosting “In My Travels, an overview of photography by owner Greg Nikas. Whether on the road for pleasure of business, Nikas’ discerning eye and joy in creating is evident in these images. The exhibition will be on view October 6-November 28. 25L Inn Street, Newburyport

Firehouse Center for the Arts: “Outside-In” features master artist and award-winning photographer Jay McCarthy and painter Kale Baker Amato. Her recent greenhouse art series entitled “Vessels” explores the fragility and codependence of outside forces on the environment and humanity. The exhibition will be on display from September 30-November 14. Market Square, Newburyport

Paula Estey Gallery (PEG Center for Art & Activism): Paula Estey Gallery, A Center for Art & Activism, is hosting a new exhibition “The Furies” through the end of October. Featuring work by three New England artists: Misoo Bang, Sophy Tuttle, and Marcia Wise, the show springs from three mythical goddesses who expose untruths with unwavering purpose and superhuman strength. Each artist conveys what infuriates them about our world: our environmental collapse, our social and human justice mistakes, abuse and prejudices. 3 Harris Street, Newburyport

Greetings by Design: This first-time Newburyport ArtWalk participant offers personalized, custom stationery and invitation packages. Owner Deb Green is a consultant for Cranes, William Arthur, Kleinfeld Paper and Carlson Craft. The store also features art by Newburyport artists, including new work by Angela Chicklis. 6 Market Square, Newburyport

Alan Bull Studio: Alan Bull, artist and teacher, will display a selection of recent plein air watercolors and oils, along with four original paintings that were reproduced as murals for the Newburyport Public Library fence. In addition, a pop up show of his truck paintings is on view at Battle Grounds Coffee on Pleasant St. 3 Graf Road, Unit 18, Newburyport

Carol Baum: See recent paintings and sculptures at the contemporary artist’s studio, located in the barn behind the house. Her sculpture “White House” comprises 99 of Trump’s tweets, and “Dear Carol: Love Ola Mae” is a tribute to redeeming relationships. People are invited to walk a labyrinth built with stones collected on her property before or after visiting the studio. 48 Hay Street, Newbury
