The Wave Mural is a large-scale, community-driven mosaic mural led by River Valley Charter School (@rivervalleycharterschool) educator Catherine Debrocke (@artatthecenter) and her team of middle school Mural Arts students. Designed by local 8th grader Ania Tymowski, with a digital mockup by Meadowhawk Studios (@meadowhawkstudio), the mural symbolizes a “Wave of Change”—a call to action for building a better world.
Measuring approximately 13ft x 26ft, the mural was unveiled at the end of June after Amesbury PACT (@amesbury_pact)’s Pride Celebration in the Millyard of downtown Amesbury and is composed entirely of unique, handcrafted tiles made by community members of all ages and abilities. Funds raised supported the purchase of clay, glazes, installation tools, equipment, and on-site signage.
Each color in the wave represents one of twelve social or environmental themes—from peace, racial justice, and climate action to food security, housing, and mental health awareness—acknowledging the many ways we can build a better world.
The project is powered by The Wave Mural Collective (@thewavemuralcollective), a group of women artists, activators, and activists committed to community-based murals centered on social and environmental justice.
