Special 40th-Anniversary Events: A Close Collaboration with Cape Ann Museum and Rocky Neck Art Colony

The calendar says it’s fall, but Cape Ann Artisans have added an extra hue of celebration this year. Marking their 40th anniversary, the artisans have truly gone above and beyond. Alongside their annual Spring and Fall Tours, this year showcases unique partnerships with Cape Ann Museum and an upcoming retrospective exhibit at the Cultural Center at Rocky Neck.

A Personal Encounter with Art and Artists

At the heart of the celebration is the much-awaited Fall Tour, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, October 7-8, from 10 AM to 5 PM. This isn’t just another art show; it’s an intimate experience. You’ll have the chance to visit 17 individual studios spread across Gloucester and Rockport and engage in meaningful conversations with the artists.

A One-Stop Preview

If you’d like to get a quick overview of the artisans’ work before setting out on the tour, there’s an exclusive 40th-year exhibition at the Cultural Center at Rocky Neck beginning September 28th. This collective display features 43 current and former artisans. Some, sadly, are remembered posthumously, including Bart Stuyf, renowned for his playful metal sculptures and infectious laughter.

Buy and Support

On display at the Rocky Neck Exhibit from September 28th through October 29th will be representative pieces from each artisan. Many of these works are up for sale, and a portion of the proceeds will support the Rocky Neck Art Colony. An opening reception will be held on Sunday, October 1, from 4-7 PM. The Cultural Center will also be open Thursdays through Sundays, 12-5 PM.

More Opportunities for Interaction

Beyond the Fall Tour, Cape Ann Artisans have been busily engaged all summer, curating and participating in various shows:

  • Pam Stratton’s “Empty Nest” was showcased at the Rockport Art Association in July.
  • Sallie Strand curated several exhibitions, featuring works by fellow Cape Ann Artisan Jacqueline Ganim-DeFalco.
  • Rebecca Nagle and Jacqueline Ganim-DeFalco were both selected for the “Cape-to-Cape” show at the Cotuit Center for the Arts.

Plan Your Visit

The Fall Tour is self-guided, offering the freedom to explore at your own pace. A map and brochure can be your starting point, available in print or online. Brochures are also accessible at major tourist outlets such as the Cape Ann Chamber, Discover Gloucester, the North of Boston CVB, and local hotels and restaurants.
