Imagine spending ten days in the historic town of Essex, Massachusetts, learning the art of boatbuilding from expert craftsman Jeff Lane. By the end of the course, you’ll have built your very own Essex Salt Marsh Dory – a versatile, compact boat perfect for single-handed rowing.
Designed by local Essex craftsman Charles A. Burnham, the Salt Marsh Dory is a testament to both tradition and innovation. Using modern epoxy techniques, these boats are incredibly lightweight, making them easy to transport on car roof racks and simple for one person to handle. It’s the perfect blend of Essex’s rich shipbuilding heritage and contemporary practicality.

- Time: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- Tuition: $2,800 per boat (includes all materials and tools)
- Deposit: $500 non-refundable deposit required to register
- Class Size: Minimum 4 boats; Maximum 8 boats
