Newburyport ArtWalk Spring 2022 Returns on May 7 

Meet the artists, see demonstrations, and enjoy a day out with this self-guided tour 

  

Newburyport, MA, April 27, 2022 – The cultural scene is thriving in Newburyport and kicks off with the Spring Newburyport ArtWalk on Saturday, May 7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with paintings, photography, sculptures and more from talented local artists. The public is invited to take part in ArtWalk’s events, browse artwork in traditional and contemporary styles in Newburyport’s Cultural District, dine, and shop at local businesses.  

Participating galleries this year include Alan Bull Studio, A Pleasant Shoppe LLC, Newbury artist Carol Baum (online only) Firehouse Center for the Arts, Greetings By Design, Indigo Artist Studio, Newburyport Art Association, Newburyport Framers, The PEG Center for Art & Activism, Sweethaven Gallery (online only), and Valerie’s Gallery. Look for galleries and partners that have an ArtWalk sign in their windows. 

A special thanks goes to the numerous ArtWalk partner businesses who help to support this event. Among the special activities planned for the May 7th ArtWalk are: 

Newburyport Framers: Newburyport Framers one of the best equipped frame shops on the North Shore, offering meticulous care and attention to detail. In addition to the highest quality of framing, they also feature original art for sale by owner Patti Langley, Marisa DiIorio Peters, and others. Opportunity Works also will be presenting some pieces from its OpArt program. 3 Graf Road, Newburyport  

Indigo Artist Studio: As the printmaking studio and gallery space for Mary Pollak and guest artists since 2006, the studio is open only for ArtWalk or by appointment. Cara Gonier will be on hand, showing her monotypes and Mary Pollak will host a printmaking experience for all ages from 10-11 a.m. Get a free print to take home. 53 Middle Street, Newburyport  

Newburyport Art Association:  The NAA will be featuring three exhibits during ArtWalk including “Glass Concepts: Transparency,” and “Master Artists Part 1” celebrating some of the most distinguished members of the Association, and “OpArt New Works” selections by Opportunity Works of Newburyport and Haverhill inspired by Swiss abstract artist Sophie Taeuber-Arp. 65 Water Street, Newburyport 

A Pleasant Shoppe LLC Discover one of a kind, handmade pieces by 100 local artists in a variety of media at this friendly art gallery. Some of the artists it represents will be painting en plein air around Newburyport so you can see live painting during ArtWalk. Last year, an artist sold his painting right off the easel. The gallery offers paintings, photography, weaving, jewelry, handbags, pottery, furniture, and gift items. 57 Pleasant Street, Newburyport e

The Firehouse Center for the Arts: John Sheedy’s exhibition “Along the Merrimac” is on display from March 30May 15, 2022. This series of oil paintings began in the winter of 2020, marking the unique panoramic views along the 117-mile long Merrimac River. Market Square, Newburyport 

Alan Bull Studio: Alan Bull, artist and teacher, will display his recent paintings and prints with metal sculptures from found metal by fellow artist Jake Velonis. At 6 p.m., local musician Kate Redgate will be playing at a reception at the studio. The public is invited to attend.   from his Nocturne series. 3 Graf Road, Unit 18, Newburyport 

Paula Estey Gallery (the PEG Center for Art & Activism): The PEG Center for Art & Activism is hosting a group show that features more than 30 Boston area artists and calls for action on the environment.  Shared Habitat Earth (SHE), organized and curated by artist Barbara Eskin, is on display from April 15 through May 30. 3 Harris Street, Newburyport 

Valerie’s Gallery: Stop by to see new work by gallery artists. This American-made fine craft shop and art gallery represents local and national craftspeople who are creating unique and beautiful, handmade items. Our specialties include artisan jewelry, pottery, and paintings and original prints.  26 State Street, Newburyport  

Greetings by Design: Find personalized, custom stationery and invitation packages as well as art by Newburyport artists in this friendly store. Owner Deb Green is a consultant for Cranes, William Arthur, Kleinfeld Paper and Carlson Craft. 6 Market Square, Newburyport

The Newburyport ArtWalk events are typically held twice a year. They are free and open to the public. A collaborative of galleries host special exhibitions, artist demos, lectures, tours, and visual art all within easy walking distance in historic downtown Newburyport.
