Unleashing Musical Talent: NMYO’s Symphonic Summer Sessions in Topsfield

This summer, the Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestras (NMYO) is excited to announce its fourth annual Symphonic Summer Sessions, held from July 29 to August 2, 2024, at the scenic Trinity Episcopal Church in Topsfield, MA. This one-week music program, set amidst the church’s lush wooded grounds, offers a diverse and enriching experience for young musicians in the region.

A Musical Retreat for Young Talents

The NMYO’s summer program is a unique blend of musical activities designed to cater to various interests and skill levels. Participants can look forward to engaging in small and large ensemble practices, exploring genres from jazz and pop to fiddling and traditional concert band music. The sessions are divided into:

  • Winds, Brass, and Percussion: This segment, running from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m., focuses on small group practices and larger Wind Ensemble performances.
  • String Musicians: Catering to different expertise levels, the program includes a small string ensemble for those at the end of Suzuki Book 1 or equivalent through Book 3, meeting from 12:30 to 2:30 pm with additional fiddling workshops. Advanced players at Suzuki Book 4 or higher meet from 2:00 to 5:00 pm for chamber music and larger ensemble sessions.

More Than Just Music

Under the guidance of NMYO’s exceptional conducting staff and guest artists, participants will enhance their musical skills and enjoy a vibrant community atmosphere. This program is open to youth musicians with at least two years of instrument study and the ability to read music. No audition is necessary, welcoming both NMYO members and local student musicians.
