Gloucester Stage Company is located in a residential portion of East Gloucester, with waterfront access to Smith Cove at the rear of the building. The century-old repurposed brick warehouse was originally a local Buick dealership. The main floor of the theater building is 10,000 sqft. directly off the road, along the sidewalk. Newly renovated restrooms now achieve an ADA compliant facility for all those visiting or attending performances.
Patrons are greeted in the modern and colorful 1,700 sq. ft. lobby (renovated in 2015); then enjoy a 3,840 sq. ft. theater space with 178 seats; a ¾ thrust 600 sq. ft. stage; a state of the art lighting/sound system (upgraded in 2016), and simple red theater seating. Behind the flexible stage space lies a large scene shop and separate dressing rooms with views of the water. Central heating and air conditioning provide year-round usage of all spaces. There is staff parking in the rear of the property and on-street and a municipal lot nearby for audience parking. The building’s lower level is an unfinished open warehouse space used to store props and set pieces.
